Join us for a visit to our seed orchard in Dundas, ON! NOW ON AUGUST 9TH (RAIN DATE)
About this Event

The Toronto Plant Market is hitting the road to go visit our Native Seed Orchard in Dundas, ON, during peak bloom time. Jonas and Parker will be available to answer your questions about the seed orchard and show off the beautiful flowers in all their glory.

You may or may not know, the seeds and plugs we sell are harvested from plants that we grow in a seed orchard hosted at NVK Nurseries in Dundas, ON. The goal of the seed orchard is to create an ethical and sustainable source of native plant seed, with locally-adapted genetics to Southern Ontario to be available for both commercial use and for restoration work across our region.

The Toronto Seed Orchard has always been rooted in collaboration - while Jonas Spring helps organize it now, it has depended on the support of many people. We are thrilled to be hosting a ‘field trip’ to come see this truly revolutionary and special place! This event is free and open to the public. We are hoping it will be a welcoming space for those interested in learning about native seed production, and that you will come back to join us for seed cleaning in the Fall!

We will be meeting either at the orchard (4 pm), or at our lot in Etobicoke ( DEPARTING at 3 pm, if you need a ride to the orchard). We will share the exact location of the orchard in an email to attendees the day before the field trip.

IMPORTANT: indicate in this sheet whether you need a ride, or are willing to give other folks a lift.

ALSO IMPORTANT: Please, please dress accordingly! The seed orchard is in an open field with no shade cover. Make sure to bring plenty of water, a hat, and sunscreen to stay protected!

Rain check date: If there is a significant chance of heavy rain or Thunderstorms, the field trip will be postponed to Sunday, August 9.

Keep following us at @torontoplantmarket to learn more on our series spotlighting local voices in horticulture and ecological restoration!
