LIT Stars CIC and Hackney Libraries return for the 3rd year with the UK's largest Children's Black Book Fair. It will be our 3rd annual celebration of books, creativity and culture on Saturday 22nd August 2026 in Hackney.
After two incredible years of packed audiences, unforgettable activities and sold-out success, we're back even bigger and better! Join us for an exciting afternoon filled with Black books, inspiring stories, author talks, seminars, storytelling, arts and crafts, creative activities, performances and much more.
Meet talented young authors, discover amazing books, enjoy family-friendly entertainment and celebrate the power of reading, imagination and representation.
Whether you're a parent, teacher, librarian, youth worker, book lover or simply looking for a fantastic free family day out, everyone is invited.

Join this wordsmith genius Michael De Souza in his exciting Rhythm and Rhyme workshop. The creator of the bestselling children's character Rastamouse will be sharing some of his poetic tips on how to rhyme sucessfully.
This year we have decided to bring some Black books to life in BLACK BOOKS COME ALIVE!
Juliet Coley's children's story Crayven the Nyamming Jancro is about a feral bird who travels to 10 Caribbean islands to eat their national dish. The CBBF UK are giving children a chance to meet Crayven and taste some of the tropical delights the islands have to offer. Not to be missed!
The CBBF UK have decided to bring Zac and Tia, their adventureous family and the Secret Time Machine to life in Black Books Alive.
Children can have the chance to step into the Time Machine and go back in time and meet a character from Black History.
This interactive activity is exciting, fun and not to be missed.
With permission from his family, we have renamed our Windrush Space, THE HUNTLEY CORNER after the late Publisher and Activist Mr Eric Huntley. He opened the 2025 Children's Black Book Fair and we are honoured to rename this space after this icon. We have exciting activities planned for the children around Authors the children may not be familiar with, their Books, Black British History and Legacy. A must visit!
Throughout the day children and families can sit and listen to some amazing storytellers. We have an Under 7 Storytelling Marathon space, an area when men and fathers are reading and an area where children can listen to positive and empowering stories about culture, pride and the beauty of afro hair. Just stop by, chill out and take in the beauty and magic of stories.
Our aim is to create an event and space during the Summer holidays were children can have fun, address the 'summer slide' in a space where the activities are all free. Families can spend the day and enjoy all the fun of the Library. We have free Books, free Artsand Craft activities, free face painting, free. goodie bags, free photoand video stops, even free food. Come and spend an unforgettable day with us and fall in love with books.
