About this Event
During this walk, which may last up to 2.5 hours, we will be focusing on the bounty of this wonderful season. We will learn to identify, pick and taste a variety of wild foods which can include foliage, fungi, nuts, seeds and fruits to name a few. There is so much abundance to be enjoyed and shared at this time of year, often right on our doorstep!
As well as learning how to safely identify wild foods, there will be discussion around seasonal eating, sustainable practices and some medicinal uses of plants. We will touch on how to use these wild ingredients in our cooking as well as how to preserve them. With food security being an important topic, this event aims to show how foraging can be safely implemented into any lifestyle and location by using a range of habitats from rural to urban, and even our gardens!
The group will meet at the Fish Factory, at 10am on Thursday. From there we will wander along nearby footpaths. We will finish our walk back at the Fish Factory.
This walk is in collaboration with Right to Roam Kernow, a community action group supporting land access and land justice in Cornwall. This event aims to show how learning to forage can make us think about where our food comes from and encourage a connection with our local environment, and the plants and wildlife that grow in it. Foragers are closely connected with the land, and are often stewards for its care, since a healthy and abundant ecosystem is one that can be shared between wildlife and humans. In this modern world we can be so disconnected from our environment; interacting with it again can bring us closer to nature, and encourage us to make positive choices for people and planet.
Tickets are free for adults and children.
Please bring water and wear suitable clothing and footwear to be walking outdoors for around 2.5 hours. The walk is relatively flat, but might include some rough or steep terrain and stiles. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the route, this event is not suitable for wheelchair users.
