MENTAL HEALTH, RESILIENCE & RESISTANCE IN TIMES OF WAR

What does it do to people and societies to live through prolonged war, occupation, displacement, and permanent crisis? How do individuals and communities endure, adapt, and resist under such conditions — and what broader lessons can societies draw from these experiences? This interdisciplinary roundtable explores mental health, resilience, and resistance in times of war. The discussion takes the situation in Lebanon as its starting point, while drawing comparative perspectives from other conflict-affected areas, including Ukraine, Gaza, Afghanistan, and Sudan. The event also features photographs by Ukrainian photojournalist Yan Dobronosov documenting life on the frontlines and the experiences of civilians during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, creating a visual point of departure for a broader conversation about resilience, human dignity, and survival in times of war.
