WEEK 13 Intermediate
Tarpon Bunny. The Tarpon Bunny fly pattern has its roots in the Florida Keys, where it was developed to target the elusive and powerful tarpon. The pattern emerged in the early 1970s, a period marked by significant innovation in fly fishing techniques and materials.
The fly’s design leverages the natural movement of rabbit strips, which create a lifelike action in the water, making it particularly effective for enticing tarpon. Over the years, the Tarpon Bunny has remained a staple in many anglers' fly boxes, especailly in regions like the Florida Keys, Bahamas, Belize, and Mexico.
The fly’s popularity can be attributed to its versatility and effectiveness in various light conditions and water types. Anglers often use different color variations, such as purple in low light, brighter tans during midday, and chartreuse at any time of the day.
