L.L.Bean Fly Tying Series

Join our fly-tying experts and learn how to tie some of the most effective flies for both salt and freshwater.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning November 6, 2024 and ending March 26, 2025. No classes on November 27, December 25 and January 1.

Each night we offer a Beginner Class from 5-6:30pm followed by an Intermediate Class from 7-8:30pm. Please do not sign up for both.

Registration opens one week prior to each class at 8:00 am on this site/eventbrite.

No experience necessary. All materials provided. Free!

WEEK 2 Beginner

Gartside's Soft-hackled Streamer. Gartside's Soft-Hackle Streamer is a hybrid pattern that blends the attributes of both a wet fly and a streamer, designed to imitate small baitfish and insects in various stages of life. Created by the innovative angler and tyer Jack Gartside, the soft-hackle materials provide lifelike movement in the water, enticing predatory fish like trout and bass. When fishing this pattern, use a slow retrieve to allow the soft hackles to pulse and sway, simulating the action of wounded prey.
