Join our fly-tying experts and learn how to tie some of the most effective flies for both salt and freshwater.

Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning November 6, 2024 and ending March 26, 2025. No classes on November 27, December 25 and January 1.

Each night we offer a Beginner Class from 5-6:30pm followed by an Intermediate Class from 7-8:30pm. Please do not sign up for both.

Registration opens one week prior to each class at 8:00 am on this site/eventbrite.

WEEK 1 Beginner

Caddis Larva. The Caddis Larva is a nymph pattern that mimics the immature stage of caddisflies, often found clinging to rocks and debris on the riverbed. Its segmented body and typically green or brown coloration help it blend into natural environments, making it an enticing target for trout. When fishing a Caddis Larva, employ a dead-drift technique, allowing it to sink and drift along the bottom, as this is where the larvae are most commonly located. This pattern is especially effective during caddis hatches, but can also be used year-round when fish are feeding on subsurface insects. Its ability to imitate a crucial food source makes the Caddis Larva an essential addition to any nymphing setup.

Brassie. The Brassie is a classic nymph pattern that imitates small mayflies, midges, and other tiny aquatic insects. Its slender profile and shiny wire body create a realistic appearance that appeals to trout, especially in cooler waters. When fishing a Brassie, use a dead-drift technique, allowing it to sink and drift naturally with the current, ideally just above the bottom where these insects typically reside. It can be effective in both fast and slow water, making it a great choice for early season fishing or in hatch conditions. The Brassie’s simplicity and effectiveness make it a must-have in any nymphing arsenal.
