WEEK 1 Intermediate
20 Incher. The 20 Incher stonefly nymph is a heavily weighted, impressionistic pattern designed to imitate large stonefly nymphs, which are a crucial food source for trout in many streams and rivers. It features a dark brown or black body, with ribbing to mimic segmentation, and hackle to simulate the insect’s appendages. The fly is typically tied with a peacock herl thorax for added flash and realism. It is best fished in deep, fast-moving water, where stoneflies thrive, using a dead-drift presentation along the bottom. This pattern is highly effective for targeting trout, especially during stonefly hatches.
