We asked pianist Wei-Yi Yang what he hopes people feel when they walk out the door after his recital.
"Lighter," he said. "Slightly bewildered."

Hailed as "sensational" by The New York Times and winner of the gold medal at the San Antonio International Competition, Wei-Yi has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and on stages across four continents.
His program for June 30 pairs two composers he describes as "master melody spinners" — Schubert and Prokofiev — in an evening he hopes will leave audiences continually savoring "the melodic inventions and colorful contrasts" each one conjures.
That includes some Prokofiev you might not expect. His fairy portraits from Cinderella are, as Wei-Yi puts it, proof that "his music can be songful and full of wonders,” A far cry from the angular modernism Prokofiev is often known for.
The evening closes with a rare treat: Wei-Yi joins festival director Keiko Sekino for Schubert's Fantasy in F minor, D. 940, one of the great four-hand works in the repertoire.
When asked for a special message to the audience, here’s what Wei-Yi said:
"Be ready to wonder, wander to wherever the tune journeys. Behold the colors, atmosphere or memories that music may trigger if one listens with an open heart."
