𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: This landmark of African cinema follows two young lovers in Dakar who dream of escaping to Paris, weaving together realism and surreal, fragmented imagery. Their increasingly desperate attempts to fund their departure unfold in lyrical vignettes that capture the tension between aspiration, identity and postcolonial dislocation. Directed by Djibril Diop Mambéty, TOUKI BOUKI’s restless energy and radical style helped define modernist African cinema for decades to come. In Wolof, Arabic and French w/ subtitles.
