Close-Up (1990) | 2nd Annual Garden Goes Global Film Festival

The Garden is going global! Join us for the second edition of this annual weekend-long film festival which will feature some of the best classic films from around the world. Running Friday, Oct. 9th-Sunday, Oct. 11th, we will be featuring works from nine different countries. Including beloved foreign classics like Godard’s WEEKEND, Ozu’s GOOD MORNING, and Murnau’s FAUST, as well as rarely screened gems like the Finnish melodrama RESTLESS BLOOD or the Senegalese road movie TOUKI BOUKI. The weekend will kick off with a 7pm screening of a landmark work of Iranian cinema from Abbas Kiarostami-CLOSE UP.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: A landmark work of Iranian cinema, Abbas Kiarostami’s fascinating documentary-fiction hybrid opens our 2026 Garden Goes Global weekend of international films. Based on a real-life trial, the film reenacts an incident of a man who is arrested for assuming the identity of a famous Iranian filmmaker. Exploring themes of cinema, truth and storytelling, this film is one of Kiarostami’s finest achievements and is a profoundly moving meditation on the human desire to be seen.
