About this Event
Are you ready to feel better, eat better, and live better starting from right in your own kitchen?
Join us for The Senior Kitchen & Wellness Series, a FREE five-session healthy cooking and nutrition program designed especially for adults 60 and older. Hosted in collaboration with Metropolitan Seventh-Day Adventist Church and led by Registered Dietitian Avanelle Thomas of Senior Nutrition Solutions, this program brings together expert nutrition education, live cooking demonstrations, and hands-on cooking experience, all in a warm, welcoming community setting.
What health conditions will be discussed in this program? Each session is centered around a health topic that matters most as we age. Over the five sessions we will cover:
💪 Session 1 — Muscle Health: How protein and nutrition help preserve muscle strength, prevent weakness, and support an active lifestyle as we get older.
❤️ Session 2 — Heart Health: How to reduce sodium, increase heart-healthy fats and fiber, and make food choices that lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
🩺 Session 3 — Diabetes & Blood Sugar: How carbohydrates affect blood sugar, which foods help regulate glucose levels, and how to build a balanced plate that prevents spikes — ideal for those managing or at risk for type 2 diabetes.
🦴 Session 4 — Bone Health & Mobility: How calcium, vitamin D, protein, and anti-inflammatory foods work together to protect bones, strengthen muscles, and reduce fall risk.
🧠Session 5 — Brain Health & Cognitive Wellness: How specific nutrients — including healthy fats, antioxidants, B vitamins, and choline — support memory, focus, and long-term cognitive health.
Each session includes a nutrition education discussion led by Registered Dietitian Avanelle Thomas, followed by a hands-on cooking demonstration directly tied to that session's health theme. You will leave each session with practical, affordable tools you can apply to your own health journey immediately.
Please note: This program is educational and does not replace the advice of your physician or healthcare provider. We encourage participants to share what they learn with their medical team.
What you will get at every session:
âś… A live cooking demonstration by professional chefs
âś… Hands-on cooking for each recipe - you cook it yourself!
âś… A free take-home recipe and wellness booklet
âś… A delicious healthy meal to enjoy together
