Join us for a writing workshop with 2025 PMRCAA Resident Liza Birnbaum!
Date: May 27th
Time: 4- 6:30 p.m.
Location: Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture
We are excited to welcome 2025 PMRCAA resdient writer Liza Birnbaum. When we write about nature, there’s always an observing “I” embedded in what we describe—and when we write about our personal experience, there’s always some context beyond our human surroundings. Participants will examine their own connections wit the natural world, and walk away fom this workshop with a new writing and inspiration moving forward.
Workshop Highlights:
Personal and Nature Collaboration: Participants of this workshop will be invited to write prose that brings the relationship between the self and the natural world into sharp focus.
Learning from Example: Attendees will look at examples by Annie Dillard, Robin Wall Kimmerer, and others, focusing on the craft choices they use to paint dual portraits of themselves and their surroundings.
All materials and supplies are provided.
Optional materials to bring:
- Computer
- Notebook with pen/pencil
For ages 16 and older. Those under age 16 may attend accompanied by an adult.
About the Artist:
Liza Birnbaum's fiction and essays have appeared in Web Conjunctions, jubilat, Tammy, Open Letters Monthly, and other publications. She holds an MFA in fiction from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and lives in Seattle, where she's the 2024-25 Visiting Assistant Professor of Humanities & Writing at Cornish College of the Arts.
