Speaker

Professor Dylan Yamada-Rice, Professor, Centre for Blended Realities, Falmouth University

Dylan Yamada-Rice is a Professor in Blended Realities at Falmouth University. She has applied this expertise to research and design, leading to the development of stories and play for children across a wide range of areas, including entertainment, education, and health. Her work develops experimental methods of using hands-on analogue and digital making to include children in the co-production and design of things such as theatre productions, apps, videogames, TV shows and toys, usually working with a range of partner organisations, NHS Trusts, Museums, Schools, NGOs and those from the kids media industry.

Abstract

What does it mean to understand and add to the world through the arts? How can knowledge and new understandings about collections, archives, galleries, objects, places and sounds (etc) be constructed, thought about and shared with audiences by making, hacking, breaking rules, telling stories and playing?

This lecture will showcase a portfolio of research that has used hybrid arts practices alongside a wide range of participants and studies, often bringing people directly into the development of experiences that will be influenced by novel research processes, with the aim of creating better experiences for those who engage with the work we undertake.
