REPRESENTING US - Mohilo Ongon Association
About this Event
A week-long public exhibition and community gathering led by Mohila Ongon Association (MOA). The project centres around the public display of handmade community banners created collectively by Bangladeshi women living in Tower Hamlets, alongside the creation of a shared courtyard garden space for gathering, conversation, and hospitality. The project celebrates identity, visibility, creativity, and collective care - bringing together art, gardening, tea gatherings, and public engagement.
The Banner Exhibition
For the first time, MOA proposes to publicly exhibit these banners in partnership with Greatorex. Historically, banners have symbolised identity, unity, and collective purpose. Today they continue to act as visual statements of belonging, culture, and presence. Through this exhibition, the banners become a public representation of the women who made them and the community they represent.
Courtyard Garden
Alongside the exhibition, MOA with help of the Greatorex team, will collaboratively transform the open courtyard space into a temporary community garden. The garden will function as both a growing space and a social meeting point during the
Whitechapel Backyard Biennial.
Public Programme: Cha & Nasta
Throughout the exhibition week, MOA will host daily Cha & Nasta (Tea & Snacks) in the courtyard garden.
