About this Event

Join us for a special conversation celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Freud Museum London.

Forty years after opening its doors to the public, the Museum continues to inspire visitors from around the world. We are delighted to celebrate this important milestone with our visitors, members, patrons and everyone who has been part of the Museum’s story over the past forty years.

“20 Maresfield Gardens... our last address on this planet.”

Sigmund Freud

Chaired by Anna Jobson, Director of the Freud Museum, this special anniversary conversation will explore the history and significance of the Freud Museum through personal reflections, family memories and contemporary perspectives on the lives, work and continuing influence of Sigmund and Anna Freud.

We are delighted to welcome Lord David Freud, great-grandson of Sigmund Freud, who will share recollections of time spent at 20 Maresfield Gardens, reflecting on family gatherings, encounters with his aunt Anna Freud, and life within this remarkable historic home.

Additional guests will be announced in due course.

Drawing on stories from the Museum’s collection and the Freud family’s history, the discussion will explore themes of memory, family and legacy, marking forty years since the Museum first opened its doors to the public in 1986.

Forty years on, this special anniversary event offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the Museum’s past, celebrate its present, and consider its future, while exploring the enduring relevance of Sigmund and Anna Freud’s ideas to culture, psychoanalysis and contemporary thought.

The afternoon will conclude with an anniversary drinks reception in the Museum garden.

Join us for an afternoon of conversation, reflection and celebration as we mark this special milestone in the Museum’s history.
