About this Event

This guided walk will be led in English by Christian Michel - French London Experience.

London’s Soho area is now famous for its nightlife, but in the XIXth century was known as the “French Quarter”, as large numbers of Huguenots settled there to escape persecution in France.

We will go back to the origin of the French protestant community in England, London, and Soho.

We will wander around Soho through its iconic streets and find numerous marks of the French presence from the late XVIIth century to the 1950s. We will figure out the name of certain places such as French House, Maison Bertaux, L'escargot, etc and we will even see a Huguenot Chapel, and a catholic church. Notre Dame de France (where there are works of art and especially murals by Jean Cocteau - we may not be able to go inside though). We will end at the heart of Covent Garden.
