Sean Maxwell, a native of West Virginia (USA), is a specialist in early music performance and has been active as an organist and harpsichordist in Austria and Portugal since 2015. He is titular organist of the Benedictine Monastery São Bento da Vitória in Porto, Portugal and has held organist positions at Baumgartenberg Abbey (Austria) and in the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston (USA).
Sean is a regular member of Musica Transalpina Baroque Ensemble, a leading period instrument orchestra and choir in Los Angeles (USA) and with the orchestra and choir of the St Cecilia Association of Sacred Music (Austria). He has lectured internationally on historic technique and performance practice in the 16th and 17th centuries, and as a researcher, he regularly facilitates performances with early music ensembles in the USA, New Zealand, and elsewhere of forgotten works from British and European archives. As a recitalist, Sean has performed in more than 20 countries, including England, Scotland, Wales, USA, Canada, Austria, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Ecuador, and will make his Asian debut this year with a recital and lecture in Tokyo, Japan.
