Printing Memory: Gelli Print Printmaking with Charlotte Holt

Join us on Saturday, March 29th between 2 - 5 pm for a free drop-in style Gelli Print workshop led by artist Charlotte Holt.

Objects hold stories—some passed down through generations, while others are tied to personal moments and memories. In this hands-on printmaking workshop, participants will create prints inspired by the meaningful objects they bring from home. Participants are encouraged to bring small objects—heirlooms, found items, or everyday pieces that carry a story. All other materials will be provided, including paper, ink, and cyanotype supplies. The finished prints will be compiled into a community scrapbook, housed at the local Lanssdowne Library as a lasting collection of shared histories and memories.

This workshop is presented as part of , an art exhibit on view at the 20*20 House Gallery from February 22 to April 13, 2025. Featured artists Jen Blazina and Ashley Catharine Smith collect, mend, and reinterpret objects—some inherited from family and others discarded by strangers—to explore how heirlooms become mythic, shaping our understanding of the past, one another, and ourselves. By turns playful and poignant, their charged objects evoke cherished memories and honor past lives while grappling with intergenerational trauma and the ever-shifting nature of the stories we pass down from generation to generation.

Charlotte Holt got her BA in studio arts with a focus in printmaking and a minor in geoscience from Smith College. Holt is a Philly artist and printmaker, who grew up in Massachusetts. She has worked as an educator, barista, assistant and shop tech. Holt predominantly works in the relief medium, creating intricate hand carved woodblock and linocut prints. Her work has always been a point of joy and connection for Holt. Filled with vibrant colors and forms, florals and cars, creatures and folks, She’s drawn to capturing moments of vibrancy. Holt thinks about nourishment and community and connection and place. The beauty of our hands and what we create with them. The mark of the maker. The intimacy of mixing mediums. Holt’s work strives to encapsulate the tenderness of the human experience and our relationship to the natural world.
