Mt. Rubidoux is a beloved landmark in Riverside, offering a beautiful blend of history, nature, and breathtaking views. This walking tour guides you up the mountain, where you’ll uncover its rich past and enjoy panoramic vistas of Riverside and the surrounding areas. Whether you’re a first-time or an experienced hiker, this tour offers a relaxing and informative experience suitable for all fitness levels. This walking tour is a perfect way to connect with nature, learn about Riverside’s history, and experience one of the area’s most iconic landmarks. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived in the area for years, this tour provides a deeper understanding of the mountain’s significance and offers unforgettable views of the surrounding landscape.


Tour Details:

  • Location: Mt. Rubidoux Trailhead, a short walk from Ryan Bonaminio Park.
  • Where to meet: Corner of Tequesquite and San Andreas near Ryan Bonaminio Park. Tour guide/docent will be waiting at the Mt. Rubidoux historic sign about 20ft up San Andreas on the left side of the street. They will be wearing a safety vest for visibility.
  • Time: 10AM - Tour will start no later than 10AM sharp for delayed or partial parties. If you are running late and the tour has started, you can catch up to the group on the trail. We take the longer, “easier” trail to the top.
  • Duration: Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Distance: approximately 1.5 miles with a gradual 500 ft elevation gain
  • Difficulty Level: Mild (Rated as mild by AllTrails, the paved road makes it accessible for most fitness levels).

  1. Guided Walk: Join our experienced docents as they lead you on a leisurely walk up a paved road. Along the way, you’ll learn about the history of Mt. Rubidoux, Riverside, and the individuals who shaped the development of the mountain.
  2. Historical Insights: Discover the significance of Mt. Rubidoux in the development of Riverside, including its early use as an spot for short excursions and its cultural impact. Hear stories about key figures in Riverside’s history and their connections to the mountain.
  3. Stunning Summit Views: At the summit, enjoy a stunning 360-degree view of Riverside and beyond. This is an excellent opportunity to take photos or simply enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the area.
  4. Freedom to Explore: Once you reach the summit, the tour concludes, but you are welcome to continue exploring and leave at your leisure.

Additional Information:

Parking: Free parking is available at Ryan Bonaminio Park (5000 Tequesquite Ave) or limited street parking in the surrounding area. The parking lot tends to be crowded on weekends. Plan to arrive early to get a parking spot.
