Also included with the purchase of this class is access to this session's self guided Clay Labs, of which each current student is entitled to up to three hours of per week. During Clay Lab, students will be able to hone skills and work on projects. Labs will not have an instructor but will be monitored. 

Clay Labs

Mondays, September 14 - October 26, 3-6pm 

Wednesdays, September 9th - October 28th, 8:30-11am

Thursdays, September 3rd - October 29th, 12-3 and 6-9pm

Each student is entitled to up to 3 hours of Clay Lab time per week.  The student can choose to use it all at once or split it up into separate days.

 Learn the basics of using the potter’s wheel to create functional ceramics that will last a lifetime. No prior experience is required. In this hands-on 8 week class, students will learn core techniques such as preparing clay, centering, pulling walls, shaping simple forms, trimming, and various glaze techniques. With guided instruction students will learn how to transform the clay into functional pieces of art such as coasters, spoon rests, bowls , plates, cups and mugs with handles. This class is ideal for anyone curious about ceramics, whether you’re exploring a new hobby, spending time with friends, or beginning your pottery journey.

Floyd-Wheat Robinson has been a ceramic artist for nearly 20 years. He first fell in love with the art of ceramics at the young age of eight when he took his first hand building introduction course. From then on he knew his life would involve clay. Throughout grade school he continued taking ceramic classes. With his love of ceramics and the arts he decided to pursue a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with a concentration in ceramics from West Virginia University. While attending university he studied abroad in the ceramic capital of the world, Jingdezhen China in 2010 and 2014. After graduating in 2016 he traveled the east coast to find a career in the ceramic manufacturing and production business. That led him to being a Master Potter in Training at Bennington Potters from 2017-2020. Currently he is the production and shop manager at Thirsty Cat Fountains in Cambridge, NY, producing artisanal ceramic water fountains for cats. He also has a home studio where he creates functional ceramics to sell at local artisan markets and work on commissioned wares. When his hands are not covered in clay, you can find him on the golf course.
