About this Event
This six-week course (3–4 hours per session) is designed to help students develop a strong foundation in classical realism drawing using graphite and vine charcoal. Through structured instruction and hands-on practice, you will learn to create accurate representations of still life objects under high-contrast lighting.
Each class includes a one-hour introduction and live demonstration, followed by guided studio time where you will complete a drawing under the instructor’s supervision. This format allows you to experience the full process of creating a still life drawing in a single sitting while receiving real-time feedback and critique.
Throughout the course, we will focus on observational drawing techniques, value and contrast, light and shadow relationships, perspective, proportion, and line quality.
We will begin with simple three-dimensional forms (cube, sphere, cone, pyramid) and gradually progress to drawing from master bust replicas by the end of the course. As the weeks unfold, you will become more confident in recognizing and accurately representing values, structure, and spatial relationships.
By the end of the course, you will have developed a solid understanding of charcoal and graphite techniques, along with the skills needed to approach drawing with clarity, confidence, and discipline.
Classes start Sunday, June 7 - July 12.
