About this Event

Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Oregon - Portland Guest instructors: Maria Ruffatto-Gilpin & Hannah Sharp

Maria Ruffatto-Gilpin’s Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey began in Juiz de Mora (MG) Brazil at the age of 14. In 2020 she moved to the U.S. to live and breathe BJJ in Oregon.

She is an ADCC veteran and a 2024 South America double trials champ. In addition, she also holds the following victories:
• Placed 3rd-South America trials 2026
• IBJJF Nogi Pans champion at black belt
•IBJJF Nogi American National champion at black belt
•IBJJF Nogi Worlds medalist at black belt
•IBJJF Gi Worlds medalist at black belt

Besides being a competitor, she wants to give back to the community through jiu jitsu. Unfortunately, her experience with jiu jitsu was very traumatic at one point. Her goal is to change that for females that are starting. She truly believes that a welcoming and loving environment can change people’s lives and have a huge impact on the new generation.

Hannah Sharp is a second-degree black belt, co-owner, and co-head instructor of Oregon Grappling Arts, a jiu jitsu gym in Portland, OR. Hannah is one of the most accomplished no gi competitors in the history of the Pacific Northwest, previously holding a Flograppling ranking as the number four 135-lb female no gi grappler in the world. Her competition accomplishments include:
-IBJJF adult brown belt Nogi World Champion
-IBJJF adult black belt Nogi World Silver Medalist
-ADCC North American West Coast Trials Bronze Medalist
Hannah created and is currently the head instructor of one of the strongest women’s jiu jitsu teams in the Pacific Northwest. She takes pride in furthering women’s jiu jitsu in Portland and is dedicated to maintaining a strong women’s presence at her gym. Hannah loves helping women begin their jiu jitsu journeys and working closely with competitors.

ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST REGISTER ONLINE. ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL BE CLOSED 7/26/26 at 4:30 PM OR ONCE WE REACH CAPACITY. WALK-INS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED ONCE CAPACITY IS REACHED.

Tickets are non-refundable, non-transferable and all sales are final. Doors open at 2:00 pm. Please arrive early to change and get ready or come ready so we may start on time at 2:30 pm.
