Fundamentals of Figure Drawing, with Live model with Teresa Duke
About this Event
Students will learn to draw accurately from observation—developing the ability to see like an artist—while gaining practical skills in comparing, measuring, and understanding the principles of proportion.
The course includes an introduction to artistic anatomy, with attention given to important anatomical landmarks that help artists better understand and draw the human figure. As skills develop, students will learn how to create the illusion of form and volume through the careful use of value, light, and shadow.
Weekly exercises will explore a variety of mark-making techniques, including hatching, cross-hatching, and tonal blending. Students will also study and discuss master drawings from across the centuries, gaining insight into the approaches and techniques used by some of history’s greatest artists.
By the end of the session, students will have a strong foundation in figure drawing and the essential skills needed to continue their artistic development independently or through further instruction. Appropriate for artists of all experience levels.
