About this Event

For centuries, artists have been drawn to oil paint for its richness, luminosity, and remarkable versatility. In this four-week beginner course, you'll discover why this timeless medium remains one of the most beloved ways to paint.

Designed for students with little or no prior experience, this class provides a welcoming introduction to the materials, techniques, and creative possibilities of oil painting. You'll learn how to handle brushes, mix colors, build form, create light and shadow, and bring depth and atmosphere to your work. Along the way, you'll discover one of oil painting's greatest strengths: its forgiving nature. Oils remain workable for extended periods, allowing artists to revise, refine, and explore without feeling rushed.

Through demonstrations, guided exercises, and individual instruction, students will gain confidence using the essential tools of the medium, including brushes, palettes, palette knives, painting mediums, and solvents. We'll explore the fundamentals of composition, color relationships, value, and observation while developing the skills needed to create successful paintings.

Most importantly, this class is about learning to enjoy the process. You'll experiment, make discoveries, and experience the unique satisfaction of watching a painting emerge layer by layer.
