About this Event
Fashion Design & Management with Marketing Summer School 2026 – Winchester School of Art
MAKING THE MET GALA
Age group: 13 - 18
Duration: 2 day
Dates: 6th & 7th August
Times: 10:30 – 15:30
At our free Winchester School of Art Fashion Design & Management with Marketing Summer School, we will be investigating and exploring the Met Gala and its impact on the fashion design world.
Please note that we will not be learning digital based technical skills such as digital design, pattern cutting, or sewing as part of this course. It is intended to explore other concepts frequently taught on our fashion degree programmes such as fashion illustration, trend analysis, critique, and material exploration.
During our sessions we will be investigating fashion through the lens of the Met Gala. We will begin by critically exploring previous Galas, their themes, impact on fashion, and political connotations. Once we have context we will begin to design our own galas, selecting the themes, delving into archival fashion that fits your ideas, and branding your event. We will also be designing a series of garments that combine all you have learned, playing with fashion illustration, fabric manipulation, and material/colour analysis. Students will think about the influence celebrity has on fashion, and how this positively and negatively impacts trend cycles also. This session is all about exploring many hidden elements of fashion in a way that is highly creative and suits your personal interests.
Students who are interested in fashion illustration, design and history will benefit most from this course.
At the end of the sessions, you will have explored the methods, and associated artists, as well as experiencing university materials and teaching styles. These courses are additionally developed with all learners in mind, employing inclusive techniques allowing those who may find school difficult to experiment and explore in a comfortable environment. The samples made and development created on this course is prefect for college or university application portfolios, or just as a fun way to explore creativity during the summer holidays! Students do not need any previous experience for this course.
We will also be running a series of other sessions over the summer, do take a look at our Eventbrite page to find out more about our: Fine Art, Graphic Communication, Games Design, Fashion, and Textiles courses.
