About this Event
Driven by the Mayor’s vision for a healthier, greener and more inclusive city, London is reshaping its transport system by prioritising walking and cycling, investing substantially in active travel infrastructure. Segregated cycle lanes, low-traffic neighbourhoods, widened pavements and pedestrianised high streets are reshaping how people move through the streets.
Will Norman will be in discussion with Arthur Kay, urban designer, entrepreneur and author, exploring the progress, successes and challenges of changing London’s transport system, including his plans to make designing for pedestrians and cyclists a priority for any major city.
Norman became London’s first Walking and Cycling Commissioner in 2016, leading the Mayor’s work to make the capital’s streets safer for walking and cycling, enabling Londoners to select greener, cleaner and healthier ways of travelling in the city.
Norman worked with not-for-profits, governments, UN agencies and European Institutions to tackle the global inactivity crisis, focusing on how to design physical activity into everyday life. He was Director of Global Partnerships at Nike and Director of Research at the Young Foundation and established a successful social research consultancy.
