Creating Critters - An Introduction to Glassblowing / Flameworking
About this Event
This beginner-friendly, one-day workshop introduces students to the fundamentals of flameworking with borosilicate glass while building confidence and creativity in glass sculpture. Through a series of guided demonstrations and hands-on projects, students will explore essential techniques such as flame chemistry, basic marble making, pulling and laying stringers, and sculpting small-scale solid forms.
As the class progresses, students will develop skills in shaping, twisting, and assembling glass, learning how to transform simple forms into more expressive, miniature sculptures. Safety practices and proper torch techniques are emphasized throughout, ensuring a supportive and approachable learning environment.
By the end of the workshop, students will have created several finished pieces, including a marble with a pendant loop, an icicle ornament, a textured heart using frit, and a small four-legged critter. Students will leave with a strong foundation in flameworking and the skills and inspiration to continue developing their work.
