Bring biodiversity to small spaces through native plant container gardening with simple design approaches and beginner-friendly plant care.
About this Event

Set beside Oxbow’s inspiring restoration spaces and native plant nursery, this workshop invites you to explore the deep satisfaction of native plant gardening alongside the people who grow and care for these landscapes every day. Just in time for fall planting season, we’ll walk through how to choose species that support both your gardening goals and your local ecosystem, even in balconies, patios, shared spaces, and small gardens. Together, we’ll discuss simple maintenance strategies and practice pruning techniques that help container gardens stay healthy, beautiful, and resilient throughout the seasons.

YOU'LL EXPERIENCE:
  • Ecological Benefits: Learn how native plants can attract pollinators, support wildlife habitat, and thrive with less water, fertilizer, and maintenance, even in small growing spaces.
  • Container Design & Plant Pairings: Explore native plant combinations using simple “thrill, fill, spill” design principles while learning how to choose species based on sunlight, water needs, bloom timing, pollinator support, and available growing space.
  • Care & Pruning: Build confidence keeping your container garden healthy and happy through simple pruning, maintenance, and long-term plant care techniques.
