Tree Planting and Salmon Restoration
Join Kula and Stewardship Partners for a hands-on day of restoring salmon and wildlife habitat along the Snoqualmie River at beautiful Carnation Farms in the Snoqualmie Valley.
We’ll spend the day caring for the riverbank by removing invasive plants, digging out blackberry roots, and planting native trees and shrubs. It’s a chance to get outside, get your hands dirty, learn more about local habitat restoration, and make a tangible difference for the river and the wildlife that depend on it.
No previous restoration experience is needed! Stewardship Partners will provide tools, gloves, instruction, and volunteer supervision. Come ready to learn, work together, and have some fun outside -- rain or shine.
What to Expect
- Learn about Carnation Farms and the Snoqualmie Valley restoration efforts
- Get hands-on experience removing invasive weeds and blackberry roots
- Plant native trees and shrubs
- Learn about the importance of healthy habitat for salmon and wildlife
- Learn about Stewardship Partners' restoration work and Adopt-a-Buffer program
- Light refreshments will be provided in the morning, including coffee, pastries or granola bars, and water
What to Wear & Bring
This is an outdoor day of stewardship, so dress for the weather and expect to get dirty!
Wear:
- Rain gear, if you have it
- Layers, including a long-sleeve shirt and jacket
- Long pants
- Sturdy footwear such as work boots, mud boots, or hiking boots
- Older clothing that you don't mind getting muddy
Bring:
- Lunch
- A full water bottle
- A coffee cup or travel mug for refills

Look for the A-Frame Snoqualmie Stewardship/Stewardship Partners signs at the entrance. Proceed through the fence and down the tree-lined road to the parking area on your left.
Driving Directions:
- From Seattle (I-5), take WA-520 E (exit 168B) toward Bellevue/Kirkland.
- Drive for 12.1 miles and take the Washington 202/Redmond Way exit
- Turn right onto WA-202 E/Redmond Way (signs for Sammamish)
- Travel for 6 miles and turn left on NE Ames Lake Road
- Travel for 2.3 miles - NE Ames Lake Rd will turn into Ames Lake-Carnation Rd NE
- Travel for 2.7 miles - Ames Lake-Carnation Rd NE will turn into NE Carnation Farm Rd
- Travel for another .5 miles - Carnation Farms will be on your right but the entrance to the event will be on the left. Look for A-Frame Snoqualmie Stewardship/Stewardship Partners signs

Since the pandemic, the Kula Academy has hosted nearly 700 classes and events. We’ve hiked sections of the PCT, summited volcanoes, paddled wild rivers, camped under starlit skies, painted, jumped into cold water for no good reason and danced — A LOT! Along the way, we’ve removed tons (literally) of garbage from the Mountain Loop Highway, planted deciduous and evergreen trees, and taught people how to leave the world a better place. It's a corner of the universe where adventure, creativity and stewardship collide!
Whether you’re here to learn how to find golden larches, master winter camping, learn “How Not to Die” doing the things you love, or simply because a pee cloth brought you our way, doesn’t matter. What matters is that you’re here! And we’re glad that our paths have crossed. We hope that you’ll join us on our adventures because you’re the missing ingredient in our trail mix.
