An Afternoon of Painting and Feasting at Jubilee Farms
About this Event
You’re invited to an enchanting afternoon of art, connection, a working farm and a delightful meal at the storied Jubilee Farms in Carnation, WA.
Jubilee Farms is thrilled to partner with other local creatives to bring out the full depth and breadth of what this unique landscape offers: through her incredible ease as an artist & teacher, Sarah will guide us in envisioning and portraying the beauty of the farm with paint, while Ashley will help us taste it in a bespoke, dreamy dinner experience. It’s a nourishing workshop in every way: golden hour on the farm, your own hand-picked blooms, a paintbrush in one hand, the farm-fresh flavors to linger over, and delightful company to tie it all together.
As you arrive, the afternoon begins with a relaxed farm wander, offering time to enjoy a thoughtfully curated place, mingle with fellow creatives, and enjoy light welcome drinks and small bites. It’s an easy, unhurried way to settle into our afternoon together —letting curiosity lead as you soak in the charm and stories held within these miles of farmland and the Jubilee Farm Shop. If you'd like to arrive early, please be our guest! Arrive by 1pm and you can experience the farm's CSA pick up. Stroll slowly, linger where something catches your eye, and enjoy unhurried conversation as you explore fields filled with character, history, and quiet beauty.
We will then gather for a watercolor experience with Sarah Simon of The Mint Gardener. Painting from her Watercolor Workbook, guests are gently guided through foundational techniques using a pre-drawn botanical template, allowing full focus on color, brushwork, and the fluid elegance of the watercolor art itself. The atmosphere is calm, thoughtful, and immersive—an invitation to slow down and create with intention.
After painting, stretch your legs and tour the farm with owner Kristin. She will share about their farm, what they are growing, and you will be able to gather your own u-pick bouquet from Jubilee's flowers.
As evening approaches, the night concludes with a beautiful, nourishing dinner created by Ashley Rodriguez. It’s a moment to savor good seasonal food (much right from the farm itself!), meaningful conversation, and the quiet magic of having spent your time creating something with your hands. Seasonal flavors, candlelight, and shared tables set the stage for lingering conversation and a sense of quiet celebration.
This is an evening designed to feel both artful and indulgent—a gathering where creativity, craftsmanship, and gracious hospitality intertwine. Come for the painting and the food, stay for the atmosphere, and leave feeling restored, inspired, and deeply cared for. You’ll remember this evening for its rare, unhurried beauty, and leave feeling inspired, restored, and quietly delighted.

The Location
Jubilee Farm’s lasting vision has been to work creatively and sustainably toward nourishment: growing nourishing, fresh food for their community, of course, but also being mindful of nourishing the soil that sustains that food while nurturing the community that binds it all together.
Now in its second generation as a family farm, the Haakenson family and their crew invite their community into lasting, deep relationships with the food grown there and the landscape that supports it. Seasonal events, from autumnal pumpkin picking to whimsical May Day celebrations, foster connections year-round - and educators, herbalists, book clubs, artists, and more flourish on the farm through workshops and community gatherings.
The Painting
Settle in for a relaxed, inspiring watercolor session with Sarah Simon of The Mint Gardener, designed to help you feel comfortable, curious, and confident. Together, you’ll explore the watercolor techniques Sarah uses in her own practice, learning the foundations step by step in a way that feels approachable and intuitive. She’ll guide you through the process with clear instruction and thoughtful pacing, so you can truly enjoy the rhythm of watercolor—watching color bloom, soften, and move across the page.
To keep the focus on painting (not drawing), you’ll work from a pre-drawn art piece, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in brushwork, color mixing, and the gentle magic of watercolor. This session is an invitation to slow down, experiment, and delight in the process. All materials are included, with a curated selection of professional paints and brushes chosen especially for this evening, so you can continue painting at home long after our evening together ends.
Bring one of Sarah’s books if you have one—she’ll be happy to sign it—and she’ll also have her full collection available for purchase and signing after class. She truly can’t wait to paint with you, and to share the flowing freedom and quiet joy that comes from letting paint and water dance together on the page.
The Food
Ash Rodriguez brings her signature farm-to-table approach to an unhurried, family-style feast built entirely around what Jubilee Farms has to offer in its September harvest. Working closely with Kristin and Liz in the weeks leading up to the event, Ash will design a seasonal menu that lets the farm's bounty lead — from vegetables pulled fresh from the fields to flowers that find their way onto the plate as much as into your bouquet.
Expect a meal that feels like the land itself cooked it: layered, generous, and rooted in place. Ash's cooking honors the ingredients without overworking them, drawing on her years as a culinary producer, forager, and author to create a table that is both nourishing and memorable. Each dish will reflect the specific rhythms of this particular farm, this particular September — a menu that simply could not exist anywhere else or at any other time.
The feast will be leisurely and communal, meant to extend the afternoon's slower pace — a natural continuation of painting, wandering the fields, and gathering blooms. Come hungry, plan to linger, and leave fed in every sense of the word.
We hope you'll join us for this special event.
