Bhagavad Gītā for Turbulent Times with Carlos Pomeda –

Hotel Kabuki – San Francisco

samatvaṃ yoga ucyate “yoga is balance”. Bh. Gītā 2.48

April 29 - May 3, 2026 - 8:30am-10:00am PDT

In-person + online – recording available

In the face of uncertainty and global upheaval, where can we turn for clarity, courage, and inner steadiness? The timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gītā offers a luminous path forward. As one of the most profound and influential texts in the yogic tradition, the Gītā speaks directly to the challenges of the human experience—offering insight into how we might live with purpose, act with integrity, and remain centered amidst the turbulence of daily life.

In these daily participatory and heart-opening sessions , renowned scholar and teacher Carlos Pomeda will guide us through a deep exploration of the Gītā’s enduring relevance. Together, we will examine vital questions such as:

  • How can I remain grounded in the midst of conflict or chaos?
  • What is right action in a complex world?
  • How can yoga inform my decisions, relationships, and service?
  • What role do knowledge, devotion, and self-awareness play in navigating modern life?

Through insightful teachings, interactive dialogue, and reflection, we will uncover how the Bhagavad Gītā’s teachings on samatva, or inner balance, can infuse our spiritual practice—and our daily lives—with meaning, clarity, and resilience. This is more than a philosophical inquiry—it is a call to live with depth, awareness, and sacred steadiness.

Join us for a transformative journey into the heart of yoga’s essential teachings—wisdom that speaks across centuries and remains urgently relevant today.

Carlos Pomeda: Originally from Madrid, Spain, Carlos has been steeped in all aspects of the yoga tradition during more than 40 years of practice and study. He spent 18 of those years as a monk of the Saraswati order, under the name Swami Gītānanda, including 9 years of traditional training and practice in India.

During this time he learned the various systems of Indian Philosophy and immersed himself in the practice of yoga, becoming one of the senior monks of the tradition and teaching meditation and philosophy to tens of thousands of students around the world. He combines this experience and traditional training with his academic background, which includes two Masters Degrees: one in Sanskrit, from U.C. Berkeley (where he has taught) and another one, in Religious Studies, from U.C. Santa Barbara. He is currently working on a book on the topic of “Karma and the Journey of the Soul”, as well as an updated History of Yoga and a new translation of the Śivasūtra, an important Tantric text of the Kashmiri tradition .

Carlos currently lives in the US, and travels extensively around the world conducting a variety of retreats, courses, seminars, workshops and lectures on the Wisdom of Yoga and related subjects.

As a teacher, Carlos is renowned for the breadth of his knowledge and the clarity with which he conveys it. His great love of the Indian yoga traditions, his insight, his humor and his deep connection with his audiences give him the ability to transmit the deepest scriptural teachings in a way that is clear, meaningful and applicable. Studying with Carlos is an enjoyable and transformative experience.
