Our 6th Annual 35mm Film Festival returns on April 17th-19th! We are thrilled to welcome Turner Classic Movies host Alicia Malone as this year’s honoree of the Lou DiCrescenzo Cinematic Arts Award. She will join us in person as we showcase nine classic films from the archival vaults of national institutions like the Library of Congress, the UCLA Film & Television Archive, the George Eastman Museum, and more. Each feature is accompanied with an introduction and an era-appropriate pre-show of vintage snipes, trailers, and shorts. The festival will kick off with a 1945 romance starring Judy Garland-THE CLOCK! Turner Classic Movies Writer Hannah Jack will join us in person to introduce the film.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗲: Vincente Minnelli directed this gorgeous wartime romance starring his then-fiancé Judy Garland in her first non-singing role. While on a two-day pass, a young G.I. strikes up a whirlwind love affair with a secretary in Manhattan before heading off to war. Enchantingly intimate and sincere, this wistful romance feels like a ‘40s prototype for Richard Linklater’s Before Trilogy.
𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: Hannah Jack is a writer for Turner Classic Movies, scripting the introductions to movies that air on the network, delivered by TCM hosts Ben Mankiewicz, Dave Karger, and Jacqueline Stewart. Hannah has also written hosted introductions for films on HBO Max, FilmStruck, and classic movies screened in theaters around the country as part of the TCM Fathom Events Big Screen Classics Series. In 2014, Hannah appeared on the network to introduce a film of her choice with TCM’s original host, Robert Osborne. Hannah is also an author of young adult fiction and a tenured NYC public school teacher. In 2013, she served as the founding English teacher of a new vocational high school in Manhattan and chaired the English department in the school’s first four years.
