【Palo Alto】Kai Lyons: A Night in Havana (Fri 7/17 - 8 pm)
Show: 8:30 PM
Step into the rhythm and soul of Cuba with A Night in Havana, an intimate evening of traditional Cuban music, authentic Latin jazz, romantic boleros, and high-energy changüí from eastern Cuba.
Led by Kai Lyons, winner of the 2022 Chito Latamblet Award for Best Tresero at the National Changüí Festival of Guantánamo, Cuba, this all-star ensemble brings together some of the Bay Area’s most respected Latin musicians.
The group features Dr. John Calloway on flute, Ernesto Mazar Kindelán on bass, and master percussionist and vocalist Einar “Tito” Leliebre. Together, these four musicians bring over a century of combined performance experience, with careers spanning Afro-Cuban traditions, Latin jazz, avant-garde jazz, reggaetón, and symphonic performance.
Their musical journeys have connected them with celebrated artists and ensembles including John Santos, Omar Sosa, Arturo O’Farrill, La Charanga Habanera, Los Van Van, and the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.
Expect an evening full of rhythm, warmth, and virtuosity — from romantic boleros to dance-driven Cuban grooves, brought to life in the intimate setting of Meyhouse Jazz.
Full à la carte dinner menu available. Food and beverages are not included in the ticket price.
