We are a culture obsessed with the Yang of life— the sun, the day, the masculine, fire, action, contractive, output, rising. We are fired up by all the enlivenings and wisdoms the sun can bring. The sun’s warmth and light supply us never-ceasing inspiration. In general, anything that is active, external, ascending, warm, bright, functional, hyper-functional, and the like is yang. This force is illuminating within the universe and body according to TCM. Outward expansion connects us all, but maybe this summer it’s time to close the eyes and go visit to your vast inner-awareness behind closed eyes.•••
YIN: in the cosmos, within our cells, and as seen in Pachamama- symboluses stillness, foundation, moistening, quietude, passivity, the desire to rest, internal, falling, cold, obscure, material, declining in function, and the like.
Formally, Yin Yoga started in the late 1980s. Paulie Zink, a martial arts champion and Taoist Yoga teacher is the founder. Yin yoga is cooling, so, instead of warming up and stretching the muscles, we stretch the connective tissue, joints, and fascia. Poses are held longer to allow the body to open and let go into the asanas, marinating, slowly. It is a very mental, meditative practice.
Yin yoga, about finding your edge (boundary) of each expression- the deepest you can safely hold for at least 3 mins.- which of course, can be intense- flooding one with energy moving through channels. Where is your edge(boundary) and how can you meet that with compassion? These holds will and can move or release emotions stored in the body.
Yin represents the feminine side of all of us. Yin never rushes and is intuitive, watery, expansive, and harnesses the lunar aspect of the cosmos, nature, spirit, and us.
YIN is moon, night, the divine feminine, receiving, recovering, resting, digesting, restorative nature, nurturing and healing the goddess, spiraling downward, inward, hidden, and private.
It’s personal, subconscious heart-centered work. I am here to guide you.
“The purpose of Yin yoga is to restore and enhance our innate ability to move with fluidity, power, and grace.-“Master Paulie Zink•
