About this Event
The Wogebourne River Walk
From tidal Thames to hidden source
This is a chance to experience a lesser-known river as it weaves through woodland, urban edges and open landscapes—connecting with both nature and place along the way.
The walk is offered in two parts, giving you the flexibility to join for one section or immerse yourself in the full journey:
Part One: Southmere Circular to Crossness
📍 Southmere SE2 9FA 9:30am → Crossness → Southmere SE2 9FA 12:00pm
📏 Approx. 5.5 miles
From Southmere, we trace the river’s lower reaches towards the Thames, exploring the natural marshes to Crossness before returning along man-made canals via a circular route.
Part Two: Source to Southmere
📍 Southmere SE2 9FA 12:30pm → Oxleas Woods SE18 3JA 4:30pm
📏 Approx. 6 miles
We begin at South Mere, in Southmere Park before tracing the river’s route back to its source, near Oxleas Café. Walking through an urban landscape which becomes increasingly more natural, ending in ancient woodland.
You are welcome to book onto either section individually or join for the full day.
✨ Dates:
- Thursday 14th May (Thames to source) - Start Southmere SE2 9FA
- Note: this is a report of the reverse walk held on Thursday 30th April (source to Thames) - Start Oxleas Woods SE18 3JA
