There are a variety of predators that can be encountered at Jesse Jones Park. One is the secretive Bobcat (Lynx rufus). Join us for Wildlife Wednesday, Nov. 4, in the Nature Center at 12 pa.m. for a closer look at these fascinating creatures.

Yes, they are here. BUT, bobcats are most often observed at Jones early in the morning or at dusk.
About 35 inches in length, Bobcats primarily eat small animals such as mice, rats, squirrels, skunks, quail, snakes and rabbits.
They are generally about twice as large as most housecats. Male Bobcats usually weigh about 26 pounds while females weigh approximately 20 pounds.
They are spotted cats with short tails -- hence, Bobcats -- and long fur at their jowls. They have long legs, large paws, and tufted ears, similar to those of their larger relative, the Canada Lynx.
Bobcats typically produce a litter of three kittens that remain with their mother about six months.
Bobcats are related to: Lynx canadensis (Canada Lynx or Canadian Lynx), Lynx lynx (Eurasian Lynx), and Lynx pardinus (Spanish Lynx or Iberian Lynx).
A lynx's eyes are so keen that they can spot a mouse 250 feet away. Bobcats have great vision too!
Bobcats purr, just like house cats. A mother will often purr while taking care of her kittens.
Also, Bobcats have excellent hearing. That makes them quite difficult to sneak up on.
To learn more about these fascinating predators, join us in the Nature Center on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 12 p.m. This program is open to large cat lovers of all ages,
