About this Event

During the Welsh Harp Conservation Group's annual Autumn Bird Count Day (ABCD), join local wildlife experts Bob Husband and Frank O’Sullivan to connect with nature and learn about the Welsh Harp's notable birds, including the migrants that pass through the site at this time of year as well as delightful residents such as our iconic Great Crested Grebes.

The three-hour free event will finish at our main wildlife observation hide, which overlooks the mile-long Brent Reservoir and has good views of the reed beds and mud flats that border its eastern end.

Please note that there are no public toilet facilities on site and that children must be accompanied by a responsible parent or guardian.

Clothing — Some Welsh Harp footpaths can be muddy after wet weather, so choose appropriate footwear, as well as other weather-appropriate clothing. Bare legs may be inadvisable because of brambles and nettles on some narrower footpaths.

Equipment — Although not essential, you should bring binoculars if possible. A mobile phone loaded with the free Merlin Bird ID app could also be useful. Don’t forget a supply of drinking water. Insect repellent may also be advisable.

Travel — There is little public parking in the area, and if arriving by car give yourself plenty of time to find a parking space. It may be wiser to use public transport. Bus routes 32, 83, 142 and 183 pass along West Hendon Broadway, which is just a few minutes’ walk from the meeting point, and Hendon station on the Thameslink rail network is also nearby.
