This is a joint presentation with representatives from the Kalamazoo Drain Commission, the Kalamazoo River Watershed Council and Michigan Waterway Stewards. Participants will have a chance to learn about the incredible initiatives that are part of each of these organizations, engage in conversation, ask questions, and learn how to get involved in future water stewardship work.

The Kalamazoo Drain Commission works to protect surface waters and the environment by providing storm water management, flood control, soil erosion controls and education.
Michigan Waterways Stewards is a volunteer-based organization that coordinates people to get together and clean up inland lakes and rivers. Since its inception, over 2,000 volunteers have cleared more than 64 tons of litter and trash.
The Kalamazoo River Watershed Council works to restore and protect the health of the Kalamazoo River, its tributaries, and its watershed by collaborating with the community, government agencies, local officials, and businesses.

This event is part of the Honorable Harvest lecture series, organized in alignment with the Kalamazoo Foodways Symposium, and inspired by the beloved Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass. Kimmerer describes the Indigenous principles and practices of the Honorable Harvest, asking us to give back in reciprocity for what we have been given. Join us in this lecture series to explore ways in which we can come together to nurture and restore the Honorable Harvest in our communities and in our every day lives.
