Visitors must be able to walk up a 38-step gangway to board the ship.

Tour museum spaces, crew quarters, bridge, messrooms, troop berthing and much more. View the magnificent 140-ton triple-expansion steam engine, walk the decks, and stand on the bridge from that historic time.
In the early days of World War II, Allied merchant ships were being sunk far faster than they could be built. Soon the vital sea-lanes would be closed and the fate of Europe sealed.

America’s answer to this great challenge was the Liberty Ship!
In 18 emergency shipyards around the country a huge fleet of more than 2700 identical freighters was built in record time (in as little as 4 days, 15 hours and 34 minutes) to carry cargo and troops needed to win the war. 2500 Liberty ships survived the war, now only two ships survive from that great LIBERTY FLEET.

The S.S. JOHN W. BROWN, one of the last operating survivors from the great fleet. The JOHN W. BROWN is a fully operational, steaming World War II Memorial and Museum Ship, dedicated in honor of Merchant Seaman, the Naval Armed Guard, and Shipyard Workers of the Second World War. This 441 foot ship is operated entirely by volunteers, licensed and documented by the U.S. Coast Guard. The ship has numerous museum displays and period nautical equipment and armament. Her defensive guns, crew’s quarters, cargo spaces, and troop berthing areas are all open to the public. The engine room, with its unique 135-ton triple expansion steam engine, is also open to visitors over 12 years old.

The JOHN W. BROWN is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and has been fully restored and maintained as close as possible to her World War II configuration.

Project Liberty Ship, a non-profit volunteer organization was formed in 1978 to preserve the Liberty Ship JOHN W. BROWN as an operational maritime museum ship and as a memorial to shipyard workers, merchant mariners, and the U.S. Navy Armed Guard crews who built, sailed and defended the Liberty Ships during World War II

Tickets are not refundable. We will transfer them to another date.
