Multiple Screening at Ukrainian Festival 2026.
Vasyl Nahirny (1848-1921) was one of Halychyna's most remarkable architects and public figures. Over 200 churches were built according to his designs - each one blending centuries-old Ukrainian tradition with the emerging styles of the modern age. Nahirny is widely regarded as the founder of the new Halychyna school of sacred architecture.
Nahirny was also a gifted organizer. At the turn of the 20th century, he established numerous associations and organizations that united hundreds of Ukrainians in Halychyna, provided employment, advanced education and culture, and strengthened national identity and trade.
Thanks to his efforts, organizations such as "Slaviya," "Zorya," "Narodna Torhivlya," "Dnister," "Sokil," and the "Society for the Development of Ruthenian Art" came to life - reviving the energy of Ukrainian communities and reinforcing their sense of national identity.
