For our first lecture of the new season we welcome back Art Society Lecturer Julia Marwood to share her love of the great Scottish artist William McTaggart.
Julia is a specialist in art from 1880s and a guest lecturer on the Hebridean Princess.
William McTaggart left his Gaelic homeland of Kintyre for life in Edinburgh but returned time and again to paint the majesty of the sea and the sky, and the lives of the people who remained after the devastation of the Clearances.
This lecture will look at the rich and varied body of work he created throughout his long life and explore the reasons why he must be seen as one of the towering giants of Scottish art.
Doors and cafe open from 10.00, lecture starts at 11.00. New members and guests welcome (guest fee £12 payable on the door).
