About this Event
Join us for a thorough introduction to Jung and learn about aspects of his work that are particularly relevant today. We will look at Jung’s key concepts like Ego, Self, Persona, Shadow, the four psychological functions, the Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious.
Jung emphasised the importance of dreams and this will be explored. He also emphasised the importance of understanding the client therapist relationship between the as one where each was changed by or in the process. He is credited with introducing the concept of the wounded healer and his understanding of this is explained. The search to derive a map of the human psyche was based on his own experience of a “creative illness”/spiritual emergency - described in the autobiographical Red Book - and the search took him into exploring Western and Eastern traditions. The talk illustrates his concepts with examples from his experience. For Jung, the psyche was a rich resource on both an individual and collective level.
Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!

Dr Angela Cotter is a Jungian analyst integrating constellations work, energy psychotherapy and shamanic approaches into her practice. Her doctorate explored the “wounded healer” (in nursing) - a concept Jung is credited with introducing. This led to action research projects in a range of contexts with staff, users and carers in health and social care focusing on how to facilitate communication and connection across the “wounded”- “healer” divide. For example, one project was about the use of creative arts to enhance communication between people with dementia and staff who work with them. She has presented papers about Jung in a range of different contexts and is a Visiting Lecturer at Regent’s University where she teaches a Jungian module.
