The Creation of an Eighteenth-Century Comic Opera features the presentation of the new critical edition of Domenico Cimarosa’s masterpiece La ballerina amante (1782) published by Edizioni ETS (Rome, 2025) as part of the collected national editions of the composer’s works.
The present volume (music, libretto, essay) has been prepared by prof. Anthony R. DelDonna, Thomas E. Caestecker Professor of Music in the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University. The musical ensemble (vocal and instrumental) will be under the direction of Prof. Frederick Binkholder (Professor of the Practice). The concert will feature a pre-performance discussion lead by Prof. Guido Olivieri, Ph.D. (Professor of Musicology, University of Texas-Austin) with the author and music director. The performance features the period ensemble Modern Musick and the Georgetown University Chamber Singers. This event is co-sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute (ICI); the Georgetown Humanities Initiative; the Department of Italian Studies, and Catholic Campus Ministry.
