At the center of the story is Bettly, a spirited young woman whose independence has made her the talk of the village. Pursued by the earnest Daniel, she seems determined to avoid marriage altogether. But when a mysterious traveler seeks shelter in her chalet during a winter storm, misunderstandings, disguises, and a little clever matchmaking soon set the stage for a whirlwind of comic confusion.
