Overview

An immersive evening of Denver history, wine, tintype portraiture, Victorian divination, and hands-on botanical craft, unfolding across Cheesman Park and a nearby historic venue.

Beneath the grass of one of Denver's most beloved parks lies a history most visitors never learn. In 1893, an undertaker was hired to relocate thousands of graves out of the city's original cemetery. He was paid by the coffin. What followed was one of Denver's strangest and darkest scandals, and many graves were never relocated, leaving an unknown number of people still buried beneath the park today.

Join Bespoke Wine Journeys for an evening built around that history, equal parts historical reckoning and gothic celebration.

This is a small-capacity event and every element, from the historian to the photographer to the wine, has been chosen deliberately.

Your Host

Molly Montgomery is the founder of Bespoke Wine Journeys, a Denver-based wine events company built on the belief that a wine night should be an experience, not just a pour.

With more than 20 years in hospitality, including experience in James Beard Award-winning restaurants, Molly brings a professional hospitality background and a storyteller's instinct to every event she designs. She builds nights with a point of view, and The City Beneath brings that approach to Denver history, wine, and place.

What's Included With Your Ticket
A Guided Historical Walk at Cheesman Park

Denver historian Phil Goodstein will guide guests through the true story of the former City Cemetery and the history beneath the park.

Tintype Portrait

Each guest will sit for a one-of-a-kind portrait with photographer Dylan Burr, using a modern tintype process rooted in the photographic tradition of the era explored throughout the evening.

You'll receive your finished portrait the night of the event.

Curated Wine Tasting

After the historical walk, we'll continue to a nearby historic Denver venue for a guided wine experience designed and hosted by Molly.

Apple Fortune Telling

A playful Victorian-era divination tradition, reimagined for the evening.

Cemetarium Workshop with The Terrorium Shop

Build your own miniature cemetery-inspired terrarium with The Terrorium Shop, complete with delightfully macabre details.

Your finished Cemetarium is yours to take home.

Light Bites

Light bites will be served during the evening.

This is not a plated dinner or full meal, so we recommend eating beforehand if you need something more substantial.

Keepsakes to Take Home

Every guest will leave with a few small, thoughtfully chosen surprises inspired by the evening. We won't spoil everything in advance.

Street parking around Cheesman Park (your first stop) can fill quickly, so we recommend allowing extra time.

The historical walk takes place outdoors. In the event of rain or severe weather, we'll notify ticket holders in advance of any changes to the schedule.

Refund Policy

Refunds are available through October 14, 2026. After that date, tickets are nonrefundable due to advance commitments with our venue and participating artists and vendors.
