About this Event

Veterans of Hope Project, Iliff School of Theology, Indigo Arts Alliance, and the Freeney-Harding Family are hosting this memorial celebration on Saturday, August 29, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado.

Rachel passed away on May 25, 2026 in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, surrounded by her family and her beloved Candomblé community, Terreiro do Cobre.

Rachel was the cherished daughter of the late civil rights icons, authors, and longtime Denver residents, Dr. Vincent Harding and Rosemarie Freeney-Harding. She was a devoted sister, cousin, mentor, and trusted friend, as well as a brilliant historian, celebrated poet, and dedicated educator. She passed away peacefully in a region central to her life’s work, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, faith, and transformative scholarship.

11:00 AM: Light brunch and connection

11:45 AM: Program and Livestream begin

Location: In-person at Iliff or online via livestream. Unable to attend in person? Register to receive the livestream link.

Dress Code: If you are able, we request that attendees wear White, gold, or a combination of both for the memorial service, honoring Rachel’s role as a priestess in the Candomblé spiritual tradition.
