The A Stands for Art: A Southern Circuit Film Screening
About this Event
Global Education Center is proud to host a stop on the Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers, a program of South Arts in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, featuring the documentary The A Stands for Art.
With Atlanta rapidly changing, it rings true that you never know you're in a movement until it's over. The A Stands for Art delves into the vibrant tapestry of Atlanta's art scene, chronicling the creativity of artists, curators, and cultural organizers who kept the city's art scene growing despite a lack of funding for the arts.
Filmed over several years, this feature-length documentary and docu-series captures Atlanta at a crossroads: a booming population, a flourishing art scene, and the tension between cultural heritage and gentrification. The film ties Atlanta's history of resistance, from the Civil Rights movement through the Black Lives Matter era, to the city's art boom today, showing how creativity continues to fuel renewal.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with filmmakers Tabari Sturdivant and Sade Wilkins, a community panel of local Nashville artists, and a community meal.
