No 16. līdz 18. septembrim Latvijas Universitātes Mazajā aulā notiks starptautiska zinātniska konference “Kas veido literatūru: pārskatot reālismu, poētiku un piederību” – viens no centrālajiem LU Literatūras, folkloras un mākslas institūta 80. jubilejas gada notikumiem.
Konference pulcēs ap 70 pētnieku no dažādām valstīm, lai starpdisciplināri aplūkotu literatūras spēju atspoguļot, veidot un apšaubīt realitāti, identitāti un piederību. Trīs dienu programmā paredzētas plenārlekcijas, referātu sesijas un diskusijas par reālismu, poētiku, atmiņu, migrāciju, digitālajiem medijiem, mākslīgo intelektu un citām aktuālām literatūras un kultūras pētniecības tēmām.

From 16 to 18 September, the international academic conference “What Makes Literature? Redefining Realism, Poetics, and Belonging” will take place in the Small Aula of the University of Latvia. It is one of the central events marking the 80th anniversary of the Institute of Literature, Folklore and Art of the University of Latvia.
The conference will bring together around 70 researchers from different countries to explore, from an interdisciplinary perspective, literature’s capacity to reflect, shape, and question reality, identity, and belonging. The three-day programme will feature plenary lectures, parallel sessions, and discussions addressing realism, poetics, memory, migration, digital media, artificial intelligence, and other current topics in literary and cultural studies.

The conference is one of the activities of the Latvian Council of Science’s project “Latvian Literature as a Sense of Belonging: Personalities, Poetics, and Public Space” (No. VPP-IZM-Letonika-2025/1-0006) and the project “Rediscovering Latvian Realism: Literary Innovations as a Search for Identity” (No. lzp-2024/1-0341). The event is supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation, the Riga City Council’s “Live Riga” program for co-financing events, and the University of Latvia.
