"British Statecraft and the Baltic Sea Regio" Book Presentation and Discussion
How has Britain shaped the Baltic Sea region and how has the Baltic shaped British strategic thinking?
Join us on 15 September for a presentation and discussion of "British Statecraft and the Baltic Sea Region: A Documentary History", a new book by Hugo Bromley and Brendan Simms from the University of Cambridge.
Drawing on historical documents spanning more than 300 years, the authors explore Britain’s diplomatic, political and commercial engagement with the Baltic - from the early modern period to the present day.
The discussion will also look at the Baltic’s continuing importance in British strategy, European security and contemporary geopolitics.
About the authors:
Hugo Bromley is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics, where he works on economic statecraft, applied history and UK geopolitics.
Brendan Simms is Professor of the History of International Relations at the University of Cambridge, Founder and Director of the Centre for Geopolitics, and co-leader of the Baltic Geopolitics Programme.

The event is organised in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences at Rīga Stradiņš University and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Latvia.
This will be the only presentation of the book in Latvia.
We welcome RSU and University of Latvia students, faculty members, researchers and everyone interested in the history and geopolitics of the Baltic Sea region.
